The Brehm Center on Messiness

Today, Nate Risdon talks about the importance of allowing messiness to persist in the creative process and in organizations and about the particular gift artists bring to organizations in their ability to sit with and find meaning amidst messiness.

The music backing Nate today is from the soundtrack to Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, a film that appears to be unedited. The track, “The Anxious Battle for Sanity,” is composed and performed by jazz drummer Antonio Sanchez. The full soundtrack is available here. If you are interested in the film, Reel Spirituality has a host of materials on it.

The photo at the top of the page and serving as the cover photo for the audio file was taken by Jay L. Clendenin for the Los Angeles Times article, “Rebirth of Jackson Pollock’s ‘Mural.'” Pollock is an artist who was especially adept at sitting in and bringing beauty to chaos. “Mural” represents Pollock’s break from traditional painting in favor of his famous “drip method.” The painting was on display at the Getty earlier this year.
