Room

Room stars Brie Larson as a young woman who was abducted when she was seventeen years old and held captive in a shed. She gave birth to a child while in captivity, and the room where they live is the only world her son has ever known. Room is a story about surviving impossible circumstances and about processing trauma and learning to adjust to a new life once you’ve been set free. If you want more information about Room, Reel Spirituality Co-Director Elijah Davidson reviewed the film.

Room won the esteemed People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, an award that in years past has gone to eventual Academy Award Best Picture nominees and winners, including The Imitation Game, 12 Years A Slave, Silver Linings Playbook, The King’s Speech, Precious, Slumdog Millionaire, American Beauty, Life is Beautiful, and Chariots of Fire. Brie Larson’s performance as “Ma” is also being called one of the best performances by any actor in 2015.

Reel Spirituality was able to screen Room prior to its wide release for members of the Fuller community in both Pasadena and Denver. These screening were made possible by our friends at Wit PR and Allied Marketing. We’re very grateful for their faith in our community to respond to good films like this one in meaningful ways. The attached study guide was given to us by our friends at Wit PR, a company helping to promote the film. We’re proud to make it available to you here.
