When seminarians are looking to be afraid, they turn to psychological mind-benders and contemplations on the meaning of it all, so in honor of All Hallows Eve, we watched Ingmar Bergman’s unsettling psychological drama Persona.
Mid-way through, we all switched personalities and became each other for a while, played games with each other’s psyches, and then parted ways ambiguously, if such parting is possible once you’ve experienced so profound a psychological meddling.
Actually, we just watched the movie and talked about it immediately afterwards for a few hours, but feel free to imagine whatever you like about what happened that night. Bergman would like it that way, we/I think. Parts one and two of our long, late-night discussion are below.
