Dr. Roberta King, who leads our Initiaitve for Global Christian Worship, recently returned from a summer of travel to academic conferences around the world. Writing for Fuller’s Global Update, she shares a bit of what she discovered during her travels.
She writes, “One could ask, what in the world is going on with Christian music worldwide? Indeed, as I stress to my students, there is much more to music than mere sound. Social engagement and impact is taking place.”
She also goes in to detail about the varied ways scholars of other faiths are interacting with Christian hymnody and the ways in which Christians are integrating regional musical styles into Christian worship. Briefly, she also mentions her project, Uncommon Sounds, in which she is seeking to bridge any Muslim/Christian divide via music and performance art.
