099 RS Podcast Stiff Upper Lips, Sensitive Hearts – Black Narcissus

Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger are big names in England. Their films are among the most loved of all time for the British people, so much so, they were homaged in the Opening Ceremonies of the London Olympics in 2012. Powell and Pressburger, or “The Archers” as they are most affectionally known, are less well-known across the pond in America though except among the most ardent cinephiles.

We’re aiming to correct that oversight, at least for the few of us involved in planning and listening to this podcast. On this newest Reel Spirituality Podcast series, we’re watching four of The Archers’ most lauded films – The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, A Matter of Life and Death, Black Narcissus, and The Red Shoes. We’re taking them in chronological order, so this third episode is devoted to the nuns on the edge of sanity in Black Narcissus.

The theme music for our podcast is provided by Matt Lumpkin, whose music can be found here. If you are interested in subscribing to the Reel Spirituality podcast, follow this link.
